Service Description

Lactate testing measures blood lactate concentration at increasing exercise intensities. It reveals how your body transitions from primarily aerobic metabolism (fat-based energy) to more anaerobic metabolism (glucose-based, lactate-producing energy). There are two key points typically identified: • LT1 (Aerobic Threshold) • LT2 (Anaerobic Threshold / Lactate Turnpoint) This will give you more precise training zone definition. Instead of estimating zones from heart rate formulas (e.g., 220 – age), lactate testing provides personalized physiological boundaries: • Zone 1: Recovery / base endurance • Zone 2: Aerobic endurance • Zone 3: Threshold / anaerobic work This makes your training more targeted and efficient. This session involves a graded ramp test where a strict protocol will be followed to provide accurate lactate readings for assessing lactate thresholds. With a little pin prick from a needle small blood samples are obtained to measure blood lactate levels, commonly from a finger, the ears, or both. Protocol 2: Add on the second protocol to determine your anaerobic capacity and lactate clearance rate. For those of you wanting more specifics about your physiologic functions. This test consists of easy exercise, rest, a max effort and then a 20 minute rest period with specific lactate testing intervals. What you will learn from this test: - A full digital copy of your results - Lactate thresholds (LT1 & LT2) - Your individualized heart rate zones (no more guessing) - Gain a better understanding of how to fuel for different types of workouts. - Protocol 2: Understand your anaerobic capacity and lactate clearance rate - A detailed report outlining training recommendations and health recommendations based on your results Items to Bring Cyclists: - Bicycle (placed on a Wahoo Kickr) - Cycling Kit - Cycling Shoes - Towel - Heart Rate Strap - Water Bottle Runners: - Running Shoes - Running clothes - Towel - Heart Rate Strap - Water Bottle How to Prepare: - Be well rested (24-48 hours prior no strenuous activity) - No large meals 2-3 hours prior to - Be well hydrated - Lactate is highly influenced by things like nutrition, fatigue, and time of day. Due to this, avoid eating or drinking 1 hour prior to testing.
